Lamar Smith is founder and president of the Lamar Smith Signature Group and has built his reputation on vision, integrity and respect for the natural beauty of Coastal Georgia. His strategic land development and building vision, both commercial and residential, focus on master planned communities based on how families live, work and play. He combines that aspect with a deep concern for how the area's growth should be managed and the coastal landscape preserved.

Lamar formed his vision for land development in Atlanta before moving back home in 1994 to Reidsville, Georgia. With the coastal area experiencing rampant growth, he saw a lack of planning in respect to distance and relationships among residential, commercial, and recreational areas. Due to his experience with sprawl in the Atlanta area, Lamar became a leader and innovator in introducing the concept of increased land efficiency, creating communities where people can live without getting in their cars for everything.

Through study on responsible land development strategies and New Urbanism, Lamar is focused on maximizing green space and decreasing sprawl. He's attended workshops with Andreas Duany, the visionary for Seaside and Celebration, Florida, and continues to research and visit communities that are models for responsible growth. He works with local planning and zoning boards, city councils, and other developers on issues of smart growth. His team includes talented land planners, builders, landscapers, engineers, biologists, marketing and demographics experts who join in his efforts.

A graduate of the University of Georgia, he lives in Reidsville with his wife, Edie, and their two sons, Taylor and Steven. Lamar enjoys traveling with his family, piloting his plane, and wing shooting. What began with his concept of moving roads to save the area's massive old live oak trees has become a driving force for Lamar as he introduces and expands smart growth strategies throughout the area.

Ashley Durrence is Controller for Lamar Smith Signature Group. He joined the Lamar Smith team in March 2007 after working for Draffin & Tucker, LLP, of Albany, Georgia. A graduate of Georgia Southern University, Ashley holds a Masters Degree in Accounting. He and his wife, Tina, have a young son, Colby, and enjoy spending time with family and friends. Ashley's outdoor interests include hunting, wing shooting, and golf.

Kevin is Production Manager for Lamar Smith Signature Homes and oversees all production, estimating and purchasing. An Oklahoma native, he has 26 years experience in construction project management and holds a bachelors degree in Construction Science from the University of Oklahoma.

His skill and experience with estimating, purchasing, contract evaluation and administration, project scheduling, and construction management provide a strong foundation for Lamar Smith Signature Homes. He and his wife, Pam, have four children, and, in his spare time, Kevin participates in church activities, officiates youth sports, and spends time with his family.

Karen manages the day-to-day operations of the Lamar Smith Signature Real Estate, LLC, brokerage and oversees the sales experience of our customers. She also provides leadership and professional development for the sales team, as well as our marketing and advertising.

She is a retired educational consultant, a published author, a former magazine editor, and a marketing consultant. Her expertise in instructional technology and website development complement her writing talent. She holds her B.S. and M.S. in Elementary Education/Curriculum and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Indiana University/Bloomington.

Michelle Lucento is Production & Warranty Coordinator for Lamar Smith Signature Group and provides building support services and handles customer support during the first year of homeownership as well as the 2-10 Home Buyer Warranty program. Michelle joined the Lamar Smith team in 2009.
